Sanctuaries for Wild Animals Newly Selected in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 16 (KCNA) -- The Ministry of Land and Environment Protection in the DPRK recently conducted an overall survey of the country's areas where biological ecosystem is well preserved, in touch with the State Academy of Sciences. On this basis, it set new sanctuaries for wild animals in some areas. The new sanctuaries are Tokrip area in Paekam County and Sochang area in Phungso County of Ryanggang Province, Konja area in Popdong County of Kangwon Province and Rokya area in Kyonghung County of North Hamgyong Province. In the course of survey, endangered animals like bear, brown bear, sable and musk deer and more than 100 species of animals and birds were observed in Tokrip, Sochang and Konja areas and the Korean tiger in Rokya area. Positive steps have been taken in the country to protect endangered and rare animals through regular survey of animal species and their inhabitation conditions. |
