Over the past years, the institute has rendered great service to the development of the national architecture by designing lots of monumental edifices and modern houses. The edifices include the Monument to Party Founding, Rungna Dolphinarium, Ryugyong Health Complex, People's Open-air Ice Rink, Pyongyang International Airport, Pyongyang International Football School and the Sonhung Foodstuff Factory.

Its development is associated with the immortal feats of the peerlessly great men.

Chairman Kim Jong Il organized the institute in July Juche 71 (1982) and gave a name of it and visited it several times. Under his guidance, the institute developed into a practiced architectural creation and study group.

Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has energetically guided the institute to fully discharge its mission and duty in the architectural creative work. He made sure that the institute was remodeled and equipped with up-to-date designing means to turn into an icon and standard unit in the designing field of the country.

Recently, the institute developed an advanced estimation system for green architecture.

It is now further improving the green architectural technologies such as geothermal cooling-and-heating technology, technology for using solar energy and technology for green roofing and natural light projection. It is also activating the research to develop green materials and building materials good for human health with domestic technology and resources.
