This hot spring has a long history and it was noted in a geographical book published 500-odd years ago.

Ri Hye Gyong, head of the Natural Treatment Institute under the Ministry of Public Health, told KCNA:

The Talchon Hot Spring has been widely used for the people's health promotion and medical treatment under the solicitude of the Workers' Party of Korea.

President Kim Il Sung took a step to turn the hot spring area into a famous spa resort. When visiting the area in December Juche 46 (1957), he gave an instruction for widely using the hot spring in the medical treatment of the people, saying it is a very good hot spring.

The Talchon Hot Spring is good for alleviating pain, soothing nerves, raising the function of autonomic nerve and quickening the circulation of blood.

Sanatoriums were reconstructed and a village with tens of blocks of houses for medical treatment was built there.
