Sokdamgugok
Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- Sokdamgugok, a scenic spot on the west coast of the DPRK, is now dressed with autumnal tints. It is located in Pyoksong County of South Hwanghae Province.

From long ago, it has been well known in the country for its peculiar sceneries of four seasons.

Sokdamgugok means stone ponds and nine valleys. Typical is Unbyong, the fifth valley washed by clear Sokdam Stream and surrounded by mountains as a wall.

In this spot, there are zelkova Sokdam, gingko Sokdam and other natural monuments and historical relics. The Sohyon School, a typical school in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910), is a major relic showing the aspect of educational facilities and architecture at that time.

The scenic spot is associated with the peerlessly great men's patriotic devotion for the people.

President Kim Il Sung visited Sokdamgugok several times after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule and turned it into a cultural resort for the people.

Chairman Kim Jong Il went round it twice and gave an instruction for sprucing it up by readjusting the Sokdam Stream in harmony with the beauties of valleys and planting many trees.
