Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Musical Instrument Factory in the DPRK is well known at home and abroad. "Unbangul"-trademarked accordion and bayan from the factory are enjoying popularity among performers and amateurs in various countries for their fresh bass registers and soft keyboard. They gained public favor at international music exhibitions and international musical instrument exhibitions held in different countries. The factory was founded in October Juche 42 (1953) on the initiative of President Kim Il Sung and was called the State Musical Instrument Manufacturing Research Institute at that time. It produced accordion in a short time and piano early in the 1960s. Visiting it in October 1962, Chairman Kim Jong Il earnestly said that musical instrument manufacturing is an art and the efflorescence of socialist national culture and art and the establishment of Juche in manufacturing musical instruments could be ensured through the development of national musical instruments. Since then, technicians and workers of the factory have striven to improve such national musical instruments as kayagum, jotae, Janggu and jangsaenap, thus greatly contributing to the development of the country's musical art. |
