Historical Relics in Mt Ryongak
Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- In scenic Mt Ryongak of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there are time-honored Ryonggok School and Popun Temple.

Ryonggok School was built as a local private educational institution in 1656 and rebuilt in 1713.

The name "Ryonggok School" means the school in a valley of Mt Ryongak. It matches well with surrounding topography.

Taesong Hall, a central building of the school, is the biggest in size among other buildings.

The school is of weighty significance in studying the then educational system and arrangement and structure of educational buildings.

Popun Temple was constructed in the period of Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668) and rebuilt during the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910).

It consists of several buildings like Pon Hall, Rahan Hall, Sansin Pavilion and Chilsong Pavilion.

President Kim Il Sung toured the temple right after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule (August 15, 1945) and called for preserving such temples well as they are valuable heritage left by ancestors.
