White Ceramic Technique of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- The white ceramic technique reflects the national character of the Korean people who are fond of purity.

Korea is rich in raw materials for white porcelain. The Korean ancestors adorned the world history of ceramic development by mass-producing celadon and white porcelain from the period of Koryo (early 10th century-late 14th century).

White porcelain has such delicate colors as light gray, bluish white and milk white according to the purity of raw materials and the burning temperature. And it is divided into different types in accordance with ornament and pigment.

White porcelain was further developed in the 12th century and pure white porcelain was manufactured from 1392, the period before and after the foundation of the feudal Joson dynasty, to the late 16th century and bluish white porcelain, scarlet and white porcelain and red clay white porcelain were produced from the 17th century to the early 18th century.

Particularly, bluish white porcelain was developed and its kinds and themes of ornamental pictures were diversified and refined in the period from the 18th century to the late 19th century.

Koryo ceramics was famous for celadon and ceramics of the feudal Joson dynasty for white porcelain.

The white ceramic technique with a history of more than 1000 years was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage of the DPRK in Juche 106 (2017).
