Pyongyang, November (KCNA) -- From long ago, Korea has been well known for its beautiful sceneries. Typical of them are the eight scenic spots of Korea, the eight beauty spots in the northeastern part of Korea (Kwandong district) and the eight beauty spots in the northwestern part of Korea (Kwanso district). Mts Paektu, Kumgang and Myohyang, Pyongyang and the Pujon Plateaus belong to the eight scenic spots of Korea. In the 1930s when the Japanese imperialists occupied Korea, the Korean people widely sang the song "Ballad of the Eight Scenic Spots of Korea" reflecting their patriotic sentiment. The eight beauty spots in Kwandong district, including Chongsokjong in Thongchon and Lagoon Samil in Kosong, became more famous with the words of song "Kwandongbyolgok" created in 1580 by Jong Chol (1536-1593), a poet active in the period of feudal Joson dynasty. The eight beauty spots in Kwanso district are Ryongwang Pavilion in Pyongyang, Inphung Pavilion in Kanggye, Thonggun Pavilion in Uiju, Tongrim Falls in Sonchon (then), Paeksang Pavilion in Anju, Kangson Pavilion in Songchon, Yaksandongdae in Nyongbyon and Segom Pavilion in Manpho. They were introduced through various literary works. Today the Korean people have called the sceneries of Mt Paektu and Sobaeksu Valley, which are associated with the revolutionary careers and immortal feats of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, the eight famous scenes of Mt Paektu and the eight famous scenes of the Sobaeksu Valley to convey to posterity them as a precious national treasure. |
