Taekwon-Do, Orthodox Martial Art of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) -- Taekwon-Do, widely disseminated throughout the world, is an orthodox martial art of the Korean nation.

This martial art, a pride and precious cultural asset of the nation, had been long developed into Thaekgyon and Nalpharam (in Korean) from Subak which came into being during the Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668). Then, it developed into present-day Taekwon-Do on the basis of its superior techniques and under the support of scientific research on it conducted to suit the characters of the Koreans and their constitutional peculiarity.

Taekwon-Do means the high physical technique and the strong mental culture. It consists of main movements, patterns, sparring match, self-defense art and training.

The main movements with individual movements of attack and defense are over thousands in the number of kinds.

Patterns are of tactical significance as the sets of main movements. They are 24 in all--some having simple 6-7 main movements and some 100-odd main movements.

In Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, there is the Taekwon-Do Holy House. Taekwon-Do has become one of the national sports in the country displaying the dignity of the Korean people to the world.
