Old Book on Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Pyongyang, November 27 (KCNA) -- "Experiences in Acupuncture and Moxibustion" edited in 1644 is the first book dealing with acupuncture and moxibustion in Korea.

The author of this book is Ho Im (1570-1647), who had been active as a scholar of Koryo medicine in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty. He devoted himself to the development of acupuncture and moxibustion, even if he came of servant origin. In the last years of his life, he edited the book by summing up the experiences and successes gained in his longtime medical activities.

The book consists of 70-odd items.

Its general part deals with the undistinguishable points of acupuncture in clinical treatment, relations between symptoms of various diseases and the five viscera and six entrails and meridians, 138 points of acupuncture and their functions in medical treatment, methods of acupuncture and moxibustion, general indication and contraindication in acupuncture and moxibustion, the principle of acupuncture and moxibustion therapies, etc.

Its particulars briefly and clearly explain about the origins and symptoms of various diseases and the acupuncture and moxibustion therapies for curing them.

The book generalizing the basic theory of acupuncture and moxibustion and the good experiences in their application shows Korea's development of acupuncture and moxibustion at that time. It made a big contribution to their development thereafter.
