Pothong River Given Facelift
Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- The appearance of the River Pothong has been recently renewed to add beauty to the scenery of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK.

Working people in the city carried out the project for remodeling the promenades along the River Pothong. They did the masonry work, pavement, rezoning and sodding in sections extending tens of kilometers and rebuilt or built scores of rest places in a short span of time.

Apartment houses, monumental edifices of peculiar styles, parks and recreation grounds built along the river match well with each other and look like a beautiful picture.

Before the liberation of Korea from Japan's colonial rule (August 15, 1945), the Pothong River had been called a disastrous and cursed river. But, today it has been turned into a river of happiness under the wise guidance of the peerlessly great men.

President Kim Il Sung initiated the river improvement project just after the country's liberation and personally broke the ground for its start to free the people from damage by flooding at an early date. Later, he came to the project site again to indicate the orientation and ways for hastening the project. Thanks to his energetic guidance, the project could be completed in 55 days, far ahead of the schedule.

The appearance of the river was further improved under the guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il. He saw to it that splendid streets, cultural recreation sites and edifices of peculiar architectural styles like the Changgwang Health Complex, the Chongryu Restaurant and the Ice Rink were built on the banks of the river.

The history of the great leaders' love for the people along with the River Pothong has continued under the deep care and energetic guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

True to his noble intention, servicepersons carried out the dredging of the river and the bank revetment within nine days in Juche 101 (2012). And such edifices as the Mansugyo Fish and Meat Shop, the Mansugyo Soft Drinks and the Mirae Shop came into being on the banks of the river.
