Oungum, National Stringed Instrument
Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- Oungum is one of Korea's national stringed instruments.

In Juche 51 (1962), Chairman Kim Jong Il initiated the making of this instrument, guided its completion and personally named it Oungum.

Oungum consists of calabash-shaped sound box, finger board and four strings. There are rose in the upper part of soundboard, 24 frets on finger board and pegs in head.

The stringed instrument with clear and elegant timbre can be performed in solo, ensemble and mixed orchestra.

Orchestra and chorus "The Snow Is Falling", created as a monumental masterpiece in the DPRK, gives deep emotion to the audience for the fascinating performance of Oungum.
