"Tonguibogam", Medical Classics of Korea
Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- "Tonguibogam" (25 volumes in total) is one of Korea's three classics on Koryo medicine well-known to the world, together with "Hyangyakjipsongbang" (85 volumes in total and edition in 1433) and "Uibangryuchwi" (365 volumes in total and edition in 1445).

This book comprehensively deals with the achievements made in development of the Koryo medicine till the early 17th century. It was edited in 1610 by Ho Jun (1546-1615), a famous medical man at that time, on the basis of his long clinical experiences and hundreds of volumes of medical books.

It consists of several parts, including the contents, internal and external medicine, various diseases and acupuncture and moxibustion, which describe the anatomico-physiology of human body and the methods for checkup, prevention and treatment of various diseases.

The book was reprinted in 1814 and 1874 and on other occasions. It was also published and disseminated in China and Japan.

It was translated into modern Korean in Juche 51 (1962) and issued again together with its original text and annotation in 1982.

The book, which made a significant contribution to the medical development of mankind for its scientific accuracy and logical sequence, is widely used in developing the traditional Koryo medicine and promoting the people's health in the DPRK still now.
