Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- A brisk pubic campaign for protecting ecological environment is underway in the DPRK. Thermal power stations, iron works, steel plants, smelteries and chemical factories have overhauled and updated their harmful gas- and dust-collecting facilities and industrial waste-water treatment facilities to ensure their normal operation. Research has been directed into developing an eco-information assessment system conducive to protection of ecological environment of the River Taedong. Eco-friendly steps have been taken at industrial establishments in the basin of the river. In South Hwanghae Province efforts have been made to install dust collectors for boilers and furnaces and build tailings ponds properly, as specified in standard designs and technical rules. Land-creeping plants have been planted in an area of over 20,000 square meters near roads and at parks. A public tree-planting campaign is in full swing in South Phyongan Province. Rason City has pushed ahead with the projects for widening roads, reinforcing the banks of the River Tuman and other rivers and streams and recycling municipal waste, contributing to the economic development and protection of ecological environment. |
