Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Ostrich Farm is located at the foot of a picturesque hillock in the suburbs of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK. This modernly-equipped farm covers an area as large as tens of hectares. There are more than 110 pens, feed production and meat-processing bases, leather-processing base, etc. And more than 500,000 trees of good species were planted at the farm to add luster to its scenery. The farm had produced a large amount of meat, eggs, processed meat, craftworks made with ostrich eggs and bones, and leather every year. After its remodeling last year, the farm's output has increased 1.5 times. The history of ostrich breeding in the country was started by Chairman Kim Jong Il. In the late 1990s, the Chairman initiated the construction of a modern ostrich farm and settled all the problems arising in its construction. He also gave precious teachings on putting the breeding of ostrich on a sci-tech basis and the issue of feed supply. Thanks to his detailed guidance, the ostrich farm was wonderfully built in a short span of time. On December 7, Juche 89 (2000), he went round the farm's hatchery, pedigree ostrich pen, fattening pen and other production processes and set forth important tasks that would serve as guidelines in its management and operation. Over the past years, the ostrich farm established a Korean-style pedigree breeding system, scientific raising and tending methods suited to seasons and an animal protein fodder production process and considerably improved the raising rate of young ostriches. |
