This year, Pyongyang City and each province, city and counties pushed ahead with the work to utilize the energy resources like solar, wind and biomass energies, thus contributing to the country's increased electricity production.

Pyongyang City built grid-connected solar power plants with various generating capacities to be used in common by units located in the places with low percentage of sunshine at certain areas.

In North Phyongan Province, a natural energy power plant using wind and sunlight was reconstructed to contribute to the economic development of Sinuiju City and a designing institute and other units established solar generating systems to produce enough electricity.

Hwangju County of North Hwanghae Province satisfies 30 percent of its electricity demand by using hard coal gas, rice chaff gas and solar generating systems. Many units in the province, too, have effectively used sunlight, methane gas and other energy resources in producing electricity.

South Hwanghae province created several thousand-kilowatt biomass generating capacity along with the establishment of generating systems using sunlight, wind and gasification of anthracite.

The same is true of Nampho City and South Phyongan, Kangwon and other provinces.
