It is a significant national holiday instituted to eternally celebrate the feats of President Kim Il Sung who provided the socialist political charter of Juche that serves the people faithfully.

The President provided the first people's democratic constitution, along with the foundation of the Republic on September 9, 1948, and energetically led the work for establishing a new socialist constitution as required by the developing revolution.

On the basis of the idea of believing in the people as in Heaven, he clearly indicated the problems of principle and every provision of the contents to be contained in the new constitution. When the draft constitution was provided, he saw to it that officials concerned examined and discussed about it.

Thanks to his firm faith and iron will to build up a prosperous country for the people, the Socialist Constitution of the DPRK was adopted at the First Session of the Fifth Supreme People's Assembly on December 27, 1972.

With the institution of the most popular and revolutionary socialist constitution based on the immortal Juche idea, the DPRK people could have the legal guarantee, a powerful weapon for realizing their independence in an overall way.

The Socialist Constitution of the DPRK represents the unchangeable faith and will of the Korean people to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche by holding President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the eternal leaders of Juche Korea and defending and carrying forward their ideas and exploits under the guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea.
