The studio has made a great contribution to ushering in a heyday of fine arts by creating many art pieces worthy of national treasure.

It is associated with the feats of Chairman Kim Jong Il.

In January Juche 100 (2011), the last year of his great life, the Chairman visited the studio and set forth the tasks for further developing the Juche fine arts, saying that it is the high pride of our Party and people to have such world-level production base like the Mansudae Art Studio.

That day, he gave precious instructions on paying a special effort to vividly representing the peculiar technique and character of Korean painting, a traditional art style of the nation, and steadily developing the jewel painting, calligraphy, embroidery, ceramic workmanship and metal workmanship as well as oil painting, a heritage of humankind, to meet the requirement of the times and the aspiration of the people.

After his field guidance, a radical turn has been made in the art creation work of the studio.

Its creators have presented many art pieces conducive to the politico-ideological and emotional education of working people by developing various kinds and styles of fine arts.

In March 2012, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un sent a special message of thanks to the creators, workers and officials of the Mansudae Art Studio who had performed distinguished service in the work for immortality of the Chairman by fully displaying their revolutionary spirit and fidelity, capability, skills, mobilization power and fighting efficiency with intense loyalty and noble moral obligation to the Party and the leader.
