Efforts for Increasing Grain Production in Low-yielding Fields

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- In hearty response to the decision of the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, the agricultural sector of the DPRK is concentrating efforts on the farming preparations for increased grain production in low-yielding fields. After mapping out detailed plans to turn low-yielding fields into high-yielding ones on the basis of soil survey data, agricultural guiding organs in provinces, cities and counties have pushed ahead with such works as improving acid, cold and damp soil, carpeting field with humus soil and digging out stones from fields step by step. A brisk work was launched to spread soil improvement agents like calcium hydroxide and dolomite and fermented manure to fields after confirming the quantity of organic fertilizer needed for each field. And farms are propelling the work to draw cold water from land and dig blind drain and shifted channel for improving cold and damp soil, along with the work of carpeting field with humus soil. |
