11th Plenary Meeting of 8th C.C., UAWK Held
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The 11th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK) was held in Pyongyang on Feb. 4.

Attending the plenary meeting were members of the UAWK Central Committee.

As the first agenda item, the meeting discussed the thorough implementation of the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

After a serious study of the draft resolution on the first agenda item, the participants had discussions on the practical ways to bring about a fundamental turn in the UAWK's work.

During the discussions, the shortcomings, lessons and causes drawn in the work of UAWK in the past were analyzed and constructive opinions for improving its work as required by the times and the developing revolution were raised.

Speakers expressed their will to wage an intensive information and publicity campaign for firmly arming all the UAWK officials and members with the main idea and main spirit of the Party Congress and thus make the whole union pulsate with the struggle for implementing the decisions made at the Party Congress.

They underscored the need for the union organizations to give impetus to the agricultural production in the period of the new five-year plan for national economic development by setting it as a main task to bring about a radical turn in seed selection, do farming in a scientific way, increase the yield in the low-yielding fields and cultivate new land, and by powerfully conducting a dynamic mass movement awakening the revolutionary zeal of agricultural workers.

The meeting adopted the resolution on the first agenda item with unanimous approval.

The plenary meeting discussed and decided on convening the 9th UAWK Congress as the second agenda item.

Before the discussion on the agenda items, the plenary meeting recalled Kim Chang Yop in consideration of his age and elected Han Jong Hyok as chairman of the UAWK Central Committee.
