President Kim Il Sung founded the KPA, a revolutionary regular armed force which carries forward the tradition of anti-Japanese war, on Feb. 8, Juche 37 (1948).

The founding of KPA was a historic event of great significance in the history of Juche-type army building and the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of our Party, says Rodong Sinmun, and goes on:

Thanks to the birth of the regular armed force led by the Party, our Party came to have a powerful military guarantee in pushing ahead with its cause and our Republic came to keep on the proud course brilliant with victories and glory for a long period.

Under the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, our People's Army came to demonstrate its dignity as a militant rank which has devotedly defended the Party Central Committee with arms at the crucial moments of our revolution and successfully materialized the idea and intention of the Party in the forefront.

The KPA is now opening up the golden era of its development under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

It is the eternally immortal patriotic exploits performed by Kim Jong Un on behalf of the times and the revolution, the country and the people that he has trained the People's Army to be the strongest elite revolutionary army which is capable of smashing up any forces of aggression at a blow, fully prepared as the revolutionary army of the Party both in name and reality.

Steadfast are the faith and will of the People's Army to serve as an inexhaustible power in the sacred struggle for our great Party and great state and as a strong pillar our Party trusts in and relies on ahead of others on the road of making selfless, devoted efforts for the good of our people.

Minju Joson says it is a great pride and fortune of our state and people to have the elite revolutionary armed force, which arms itself with the revolutionary idea of the WPK, remains boundlessly loyal to the country and the people and is possessed of tremendous power to cope with any modern warfare.
