After achieving the historic cause of Korea's liberation (August 15, 1945) by leading the anti-Japanese revolutionary war to victory, Kim Il Sung set the founding of a powerful regular army as a prerequisite for building an independent and sovereign state and pushed ahead with the cause of army building.

In his celebrated works such as "On Founding the Party, State and Armed Forces in the Liberated Homeland" and "Let Us Found a True People's Army, a Modern Regular Army", he clarified the Juche-based army building idea that calls for building regular armed forces by Koreans themselves and indicated the ways for carrying it into practice.

He had made all his efforts to train the backbone of regular army and lay a foundation for the self-reliant defence industry, dispatching anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters to different parts of the country and establishing the centers for training military and political cadres.

Thanks to such energetic guidance of the great brilliant commander, the KPA inheriting the traditions created in the anti-Japanese war was founded in less than three years after Korea's liberation.

With the birth of the Juche-type regular army, the DPRK could emerge on the global stage as the dignified people's country having its own strong armed forces from the first day of its foundation.

The heroic Korean People's Army won a brilliant victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) against the aggression by the imperialist allied forces and has reliably safeguarded the security of the country and the people with its invincible arms in the annals of the revolution.
