|
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- From olden times, the Korean people have enjoyed the 15th of the first month by the lunar calendar as a folk holiday. On the eve of this holiday, the Korean people expressed their hope for rich harvest in the new year, hanging various ears of grains on poles, while children danced around them, singing songs. And they promoted harmony, sharing peculiar dishes together with family, relatives and neighbors on the holiday. Typical of the traditional foods for the day are dish made with five grains, glutinous rice mixed with honey, chestnut, sesame oil and jujube and dish cooked with nine kinds of dried edible plants. Those dishes reflect dietary customs of the Korean nation and women's frugal and meticulous housekeeping habit. And colorful folk games including kite-flying, pinwheel whirling, yut-game and tug of war added festive mood to the holiday. The festive mood was at its height with the sightseeing of the full moon in the evening of the day. The holiday falls on February 26 of this year. |
