Sulfur Mud from Kwangryang Bay Widely Used in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has lots of peloid resources with rich natural mineral matters that can be found in 80-odd areas. Among them is sulfur mud in Kwangryang Bay of the Korean West Sea, which is well-known at home and abroad for its rich sulfur content. The estimated amount of its deposits is millions of tons. Its sulfur content is higher than famous sulfur mud in other countries. The mud also contains colloidal component which accounts for 17.3 percent, 18 kinds of essential amino acid, 12 kinds of vitamins and other bioactive matters, 80-odd kinds of macro- and micro-elements and various inorganic and organic matters. According to experts, the sulfur mud is efficacious for activation of metabolism, revival of immune function, biogenous stimulus, nagenesis, prevention of aging of cells and treatment of dyskinesia, nervous disorder and inflammation. Such mud resources have been widely used in the country to promote the people's health. In Pothonggang District of Pyongyang City, there is the Kwangryangman Sulphur Mud Processing Factory. Ri Tae Hyon, manager of the factory, told KCNA: The factory's production processes, furnished with modern equipment, got GMP authentication in December Juche 109 (2020). It produces 30-odd kinds of cosmetics and medicines with high nutritive and medicinal effect as well as peloid. Researches have been conducted to use the sulfur mud in such fields as agriculture, stockbreeding and fish farming. |
