Tokchon Area Coal-Mining Complex
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The coal industrial sector of the DPRK has turned out in the struggle to implement the vital tasks set forth at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK.

In particular, the Tokchon Area Coal-Mining Complex in the western part of the country has carried out its daily production plan at 103 percent.

It was organized, as the first coal-mining complex of the country, in March Juche 66 (1977) to ensure the smooth supply of coal necessary for the rapid economic development.

Going round the Tokchon area for several days in March 1977, President Kim Il Sung gave important teachings that the newly-organized complex should regard as guidelines in its development, including the issues of giving priority to prospecting and tunneling ahead of coal production, supplying enough tools and equipment and realizing the perpetuation of pits.

Over the past 40-odd years, the complex has demonstrated its might to the full. It secured hundreds of millions of tons of coal deposits by giving precedence to tunneling and developed dozens of inclined shafts and hundreds of new coal-mining districts, while satisfactorily supplying coal needed for various economic sectors by increasing the production every year.

In recent years, it greatly contributed to the increased coal production by modernizing the transport system of belt conveyor in several coal mines and manufacturing chain conveyor, coal wagon, hydraulic press, pneumatic loader and other equipment and facilities by its own efforts.

This year, the complex has set a goal to secure millions of tons of coal reserves.
