Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- Recorded in the glorious history of the DPRK is the Chollima era. In the era, the DPRK people had wrought world-startling miracles one after another in socialist construction under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung. They successfully carried out the huge tasks for the country's industrialization in such spirit as producing 120,000 tons of steel with a blooming mill of 60,000-ton capacity and 270,000 tons of pig iron with a blast furnace of 190,000-ton rated capacity, fabricating a flat in 14 minutes, manufacturing a tractor and a truck in 30-odd and 40 days respectively and turning out 13,000 more machine tools than the state plan in a year. At that time, the country was seething with the youth shock-force movement and the young people regarded it as their honor and pride to devotedly work in hearty response to the Party's call. The National Conference of Young Socialist Builders, held in March Juche 47 (1958) in the presence of Kim Il Sung, served as a significant occasion in encouraging the youths to take the lead in the Chollima grand march movement. After the conference, the youths developed a large-scale coalfield in South Phyongan Province and finished in 75 days the Haeju-Hasong railway project?whose completion was estimated to take several years. The young builders, involved in the first-stage Kiyang irrigation project, had carried out their daily plan at 1,000 percent to win the title "1,000 percent unit", and those in charge of the construction of a vinalon factory wonderfully built a large-scale chemical industrial base in a little over one year. Thanks to such indomitable struggle of the youths loyal to the call of the Party, a socialist land of bliss was built on this land. The tradition of loyalty and patriotism possessed by the youths of the Chollima era has been creditably carried forward through chronicles and generations. Today, many youths across the country have volunteered to work in difficult and labor-consuming fields of the national economy including metal, coal and mining industries and farms with a firm resolve to play the role of shock brigades in implementing the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK. |
