Natural Forest Transformed to Forest of Economic Value in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 2 (KCNA) -- Tongrim County in North Phyongan Province of the DPRK has transformed more than 1,000 hectares of natural forest into a forest of great economic value for the last five years.

The county mapped out a plan by year for afforestation and planted millions of pine-nut, chestnut and other trees to get benefit from them.

It also raised saplings of "Kumya black pine", Aronia melanocarpa and other species of trees at various nurseries to launch a brisk campaign for spring tree-planting.

This year alone, the county planted more than 1.2 million saplings of 10-odd species in the forest of economic value before pushing ahead with the work to create firewood forests.

The County Forestry Management Station supplied over 100,000 pine-nut saplings to neighboring farm villages, and several co-op farms in the county have increased the cultivation of saplings of such wild fruit trees as wild grapes and tara vine to turn mountains into more useful ones.

Other cities and counties, too, push ahead with afforestation in a planned way to transform each mountain into gold and treasure one.
