Many Hectares of Low-Yielding Farmland Improved
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- Agricultural officials and workers in Ryanggang Province of the DPRK are making achievements in their all-out efforts for farmland improvement, true to the decisions of the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Under a detailed plan for increasing the fertility of low-yielding fields, they improved thousands of hectares of low-yielding farmland before the farming season by properly deploying manpower and vehicles.

Agricultural workers in Samjiyon City finished carpeting hundreds of hectares of potato fields with humus soil. They also spread more than 10,000 tons of peat on the argillic fields to increase their fertility.

On the basis of an analysis of soil on low-yield fields, Paekam County brought over 20,000 tons of peat to the potato fields of Tokpho area in a short period of time.

Other counties, too, applied dolomite and quality organic fertilizer to the low-yielding soil under detailed plans and made success in reclaiming cold and wet lands.
