Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- The nature and environment protection has been pushed ahead as an important policy and a national work in the DPRK to cope with such global practices as the destruction of ecosystem and the decrease of habitats caused by climatic change. On the occasion of the International Mother Earth Day (April 22), Ri Kyong Sim, department director of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, told KCNA: A campaign has been conducted across the country to restore the forest ecosystem and expand the area of forests. Also, a vigorous work for increasing the sanctuaries was launched in provinces, cities and counties to improve the environment for animals' inhabitation. With the International Mother Earth Day and the spring period of the general mobilization for land administration in the country as an occasion, efforts are directed to impressing the popular masses with the importance of land and environment protection and the fact that afforestation and forest reformation are of weighty significance in protecting the ecosystem, habitats and biodiversity and ensuring the sustainable life environment and ecological environment for people. And education of different forms and methods is conducted to make all the people turn out in the work for forest and water conservation and environmental protection with an understanding that signal progress can be made in a short period only when this work is waged with involvement of all the masses. |
