The shop in the shape of an excursion ship floating on the water is associated with benevolence of Chairman Kim Jong Il, who had worked heart and soul for the improvement of people's living standard until the last period of his life, and the meticulous guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

The Chairman provided the people with the Pothongmun Street Fish and Meat Shop on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the Republic (September 9) in Juche 100 (2011). And he gave an instruction that such shops should be built in different parts of the capital city to contribute to the improvement of working citizens' dietary life.

True to his noble intention of love for the people, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un initiated the construction of the Mansugyo Fish and Meat Shop and chose a site for it. And he energetically guided its construction after assigning it to the People's Army.

He visited the shop under construction in January and March 2012 to indicate in detail the orientation and ways for completing it wonderfully in all aspects, including such problems as ensuring the people's convenience to the full and thoroughly embodying the serve-the-people spirit and kindness in construction and the signboard.

Under his deep care and guidance, the shop was completed on April 25 that year as a perfect commercial service base where formative art was applied to architecture.

The General Secretary personally attended its inauguration ceremony.
