Pyongyang, April 27 (KCNA) -- Displayed at the Korean Art Gallery in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, are lots of precious fine art heritages showing the superiority of the Korean nation. Among them is Korean painting "Cattle Drover", a national treasure well known even to foreigners. This genre truly showing the life features and farm life of diligent and honest Korean ancestors was drawn by Kim Tu Ryang, a realistic painter active in the 18th century. Depicted in it is a cattle drover who fell fast asleep under a willow after binding the cattle to it, with his jacket opened and trousers belt let loose to show belly, the scene of which evokes laughter and familiarity among its viewers. His sunburned body, disheveled clothes and thick hair vividly reflect a figure of lowest-class peasant who had been subjected to ill-treatment and oppression in the then society. And the cattle in the central painting well represents the character of amiable and strong Korean ox. Seeing the painting, President Kim Il Sung said that it vividly represented the figure of a cattle drover in deep sleep. Chairman Kim Jong Il recalled that a foreigner, who returned to his country after seeing this painting with deep impression, asked a visitor from the DPRK if a cattle drover is still in sleep. And the Chairman stressed that a picture its viewers keep long in their memory and want to see again is just a true masterpiece. |
