DPRK's System for Nursing and Upbringing of Children
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, children are fully displaying their talents under the system for nursing and upbringing of children.

"Law of the DPRK on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children" was adopted at the Sixth Session of the Fifth Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK on April 29, Juche 65 (1976).

President Kim Il Sung set it as one of the important affairs to establish a national system for nursing and upbringing of children and put his heart and soul to its realization even in difficult conditions after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule (August 15, 1945).

In the "Programme of the Workers' Party of North Korea" made public in August 1946, he stressed that mothers and children should be protected by the state and saw to it that nurseries and kindergartens were built at the state expense and a system established to bring up the children at the state and social expense.

During the grim Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953), a measure was taken to build baby homes and orphanages and bring up the war orphans at the state expenditure.

After the establishment of the socialist system, the state work for nursing and upbringing of children entered the full-scale stage of its development. Nurseries and kindergartens furnished with modern facilities were built on a large scale in different parts of the country and a huge amount of state funds was invested in the production of toys and foodstuffs for children. And the system for bringing up them at the state and social expense was legally guaranteed with the adoption of the law on nursing and upbringing of children.

The policy for nursing and upbringing the children by the state was constantly enforced even in the period of the Arduous March, the forced march?under the warm care of Chairman Kim Jong Il.

Today this work has been executed on a high level under the loving care of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Pyongyang Baby Home and Pyongyang Orphanage with better conditions and environment for children's education and life were newly built on the bank of the picturesque Taedong River and such baby homes and orphanages and model kindergartens like Kyongsang Kindergarten came into being in different parts of the country.
