Pyongyang, May 4 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung's whole life is a history of love dedicated to the people. The President had always found his greatest pleasure in going through hardships to promote the people's wellbeing. One day in September Juche 37 (1948), he visited a village in the country's west coast to talk with its inhabitants. During the conversation, he came to see several villagers having a fit of coughing. Being told that this area had no other water than salted water and its inhabitants could not but drink stagnant rainwater, he initiated a waterway project for drawing life-giving water into the area. As soon as he came back to Pyongyang the next day, the President convened a Cabinet meeting to discuss the issue of the Phyongnam irrigation project. Thanks to his wise guidance, the project was successfully completed and thus the fresh water of Lake Yonphung came to wet the Yoldusamcholli Plain and rescue the farmers in the area suffering from stagnant water. And the Kiyang irrigation project extending more than one thousand kilometers and other similar projects were completed in a few years since the end of the 1950s. As a result, the wish of farmers to do farming without worry about water shortage could be realized. Recorded in the book "Among the People" are such touching stories about the noble virtues of the President who had worked heart and soul to settle the water problem. |
