The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, in cooperation with scientific research units, found a reasonable mixture ratio for introducing lignite into the production of pig iron and manufactured a pump for concentrates transport to solve the problems arising in perfecting the Juche-based iron-making system technically and boosting the production.

Major metallurgical factories applied a technology of removing phosphorus to the production of ferromanganese, established systems for controlling the diameter reducing rolling of solid-drawn steel pipe and the carbon-sulfur quantitative analysis and completed the technical preparation for oxygen-pulverized coal injection into UHP electric arc furnace to open a prospect for putting the production processes on a modern basis and raising the quality of iron and steel.

Meanwhile, progress has been made in the works to build an energy-saving oxygen heat blast furnace and reinforce the production processes and equipment at iron ore mines and fireproof material mines.
