Plan for Reconstruction of Pyongyang City Unfolded during War

Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The construction of 10,000 flats and Pothong Riverside Terraced Residential District, which will display the development of the Juche-based architecture, is now progressing apace in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, under the Workers' Party of Korea's grand plan for capital city construction. Visualizing the renewed appearance of Pyongyang, citizens recollect the historic days of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) when a far-reaching plan for building it into a modern city was formulated. When the Fatherland Liberation War was at its height, President Kim Il Sung unrolled a plan for building Pyongyang into a magnificent city, foreseeing the victory in the war and the country's future. On December 24, Juche 39 (1950), he instructed officials in the field of construction to draw out a blueprint for the postwar reconstruction. He said that a blueprint for the reconstruction of Pyongyang City should be made before anything else, in anticipation of the city to be built into more beautiful and modern, renewed one. In January 1951 he indicated the ways for mapping out the master plan for the postwar reconstruction of Pyongyang. Examining the master plan on May 21 that year, he marked parks in Mt Taesong and Moran Hill and pleasure grounds and residential streets around the Pothong River to perfect the plan. At a meeting of world architects held in Poland in 1952, a Brazilian architect said that history doesn't know other people more heroic and optimistic than the Korean people designing beautiful scenes even under the condition clouded with powder smoke, and expressed the conviction that the Korean people guided by the great leader would surely win in the war. |
