Successes Witnessed in Korean Folklore Study
Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- The Folklore Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences of the DPRK has focused its research into finding more data concerning the Korean nation's folklore. Its researchers have made efforts to greatly value, carry forward and develop the traditional folklore of the Korean nation, as required by the current times. They thus made a series of successes recently in their research work for proving the advantages of the traditional folklore of the Korean nation.

Through an intensified study of the features, colors and patterns of Korean chima (skirt) and jogori (coat) popular among the Korean people from olden times, they scientifically proved the advantages of Korean clothes.

By scrutinizing old documents, they found new information about traditional Korean foods such as Pongsan date and mung-bean starch noodle of North Hwanghae Province, blueberry, frozen potato noodle of Ryanggang Province and different herbal dishes. Such information helps grasp the provincial specialties and culinary culture of the Korean nation.

They also had access to information about traditional hot-spring therapy and facilities and about development of rice cultivation in ancient times.

The institute has conducted a publicity service for helping foreigners know better about intangible cultural heritage of the Korean nation such as traditional colorful painting of buildings and dressing customs. Now it engages in research into tea culture of the Korean nation.
