Iron and Steel Production Increases in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 26 (KCNA) -- A mass technological innovation movement for increased iron and steel production is in full swing in the metallurgical industry of the DPRK.

Officials, technicians and workers of the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex are making a breakthrough in increasing iron and steel production through a mass technological innovation movement.

The complex, in cooperation with relevant units, has conducted intensive research on the usage of brown coal in the production of pig iron and proactively solved sci-tech problems arising in technically perfecting the Juche iron production system.

Members of the April 15 Technical Innovation Shock Brigade came up with a technological innovation plan for increasing the pig iron production. They took measures to enhance the durability of an oxygen heat blast furnace.

A technological innovation campaign for increased iron and steel production is also underway in earnest at the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex.

As a result, its production process based on domestic raw materials has been put on a higher technical basis to increase the production of ferromanganese needed for rolled steel production.

By solving sci-tech problems in boosting the quality and grade of ferromanganese, the complex also made bright prospects for producing and supplying deoxidizer and desulphurizer.

Its supply department developed technology for producing grease by recycling waste materials.

The Posan Iron Works of the Chollima Steel Complex installed a blower at its revolving furnace to increase iron production while saving coal.

The Puryong Ferroalloy Factory newly established the ferromanganese production process and the Hungnam Electrode Factory solved sci-tech problems arising in ensuring the stable production of electrodes.
