DPRK's History of Self-reliance (11)
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- After winning in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), the DPRK people carried out in five months the tasks of preparatory stage for restoring the ruined country.

Such miracles worked at that time would have been unthinkable without the high zeal and spirit of the people who rose up in the struggle to build a prosperous country from war debris as early as possible.

Working people built the Kangnam Ceramic Factory with a capacity of annually producing more than one hundred million bricks on the outskirts of Pyongyang in November Juche 42 (1953) by speeding up its construction day and night to contribute to the postwar capital city reconstruction.

Workers of the then Pyongyang Textile Mill started the production in September after restoring and installing spinning machines with 13,000 spindles and 250 weaving machines in the spirit of self-reliance.

The freight transport in major railway lines across the country was started in 24 hours after the cease-fire. And the passenger train service began in such major railway sections as Pyongyang-Kaesong, Pyongyang-Manpho and Pyongyang-Wonsan on August 5, 1953.

Those in the communications sector finished the project for recovering and expanding the telegraph and telephone network between the capital city and provinces, cities and counties and the mail and broadcast facilities till the end of 1953.

The agricultural sector, too, made signal progress in the work for restoring the ruined farm fields and irrigation facilities.

As seen above, the DPRK people carried out the tasks of the preparatory stage for postwar reconstruction in a matter of five months, thus making it possible to successfully push forward the postwar reconstruction while implementing the three-year national economy plan from 1954.
