Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- Measures are taken to cope with disastrous weather across the DPRK. To tackle the lingering disastrous weather in recent years, the State Emergency Disaster Committee has further tightened its integrated guidance system, while grasping the situation and correcting the defects. Officials of the agricultural sector are intensifying their control and guidance over the work for improving rivers and streams and reinforcing anti-tidal dykes, reservoir banks, irrigation canals and water supply gates. The electric power industry sector is directing efforts to ensuring the stability of power supply. Thermal and hydraulic power stations put efforts into maintenance of coal yards and reinforcement of dams and floodgates, taking measures to prevent flood and typhoon damage to generating equipment and hydraulic structures. Meanwhile, power distributing stations found and remedied the shortcomings of pylons, transmission lines and equipment of substations. The land and environment protection and urban management sectors make sure that all provinces, cities and counties concentrate their efforts on carrying out anti-land-sliding projects and technical improvement of roads in disaster-prone areas. Maintenance of drainage equipment is done responsibly to prevent flooding by torrential rain and the water supply network is properly managed to ensure water supply to citizens during the rainy season. The railway transport sector has made a technical survey of the railroads to get rid of dangerous elements and flaws. Measures are taken to prevent damage to railway bridges and other structures. The work for rounding off the system for forecasting disastrous weather and promptly and correctly notifying necessary information is underway in the hydro-meteorology sector. |
