In recent years, Pukchong County in South Hamgyong Province, a famous fruit producer of the DPRK, has made successes in turning itself into a thriving locality with fruit farming and a region with significant potentials.

The county gave priority to creating thousands of hectares of orchard in a planned way and on an annual basis. It put the fruit production on a scientific and intensive basis of higher level by selecting the right soil suitable for dense cultivation of dwarf apple trees and planting high-yielding fruit varieties suited to the regional climatic and soil conditions.

And the county established a model farm and generalized its successes and experiences to all other fruit farms in the region.

It widely spread the high-yielding saplings after building a fruit sapling production base covering 100 hectares and built a base for producing agrochemicals. A pig farm with an annual production capacity of several hundred tons was built to lay a solid foundation for increasing the fertility of orchards.

The county is now building a fruit-processing base and storehouse with the capacity of thousands of tons on its own efforts.

It also renewed the ri people's hospitals and clinics and normalized the production at the foodstuff factory and other local industrial establishments to satisfy its inhabitants' demand for consumer goods.

Meanwhile, the county has remodeled the public facilities like cultural house and built new dwelling houses and public buildings to change its appearance.
