Present at the meeting held before the statues of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill were Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, delegates to the Eighth Congress of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK) and observers.

Prior to the meeting, the participants laid a floral basket, bouquets and flowers at the statues before making a deep bow.

Pak In Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the GFTUK, made a report to be followed by speeches.

The reporter and speakers said that all the working class and trade union members are full of a determination to bring earlier a new victory of socialist construction without fail after receiving the important letter sent by Kim Jong Un to the participants in the Eighth Congress of the GFTUK.

They called upon the working class and trade union members to bear in mind the great trust and love placed in them by the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un and successfully fulfill their role as the eldest son of the country and the vanguard unit making a breakthrough in carrying out the new five-year plan for national economic development.

They also called for giving full play to the fighting spirit displayed in postwar reconstruction and during the great Chollima upswing, helping and leading each other forward under the communist slogan "One for all and all for one!"

Saying that all the union members should become competent worker-inventors and masters of invention by studying modern science and technology hard, as required by the policy of making all the people well versed in science and technology, they stressed the need to make every worksite of upswing brim with optimism, good emotions, militant spirit and zeal through brisk mass-based sports, cultural and artistic activities.

They underscored the need for all the sectors and units to effectively wage a socialist emulation drive, a movement to create model lathes following the example of Lathe No. 26, a mass technological innovation movement and other mass movements so as to make all worksites bustling places brimming with the efforts to create new standards and records and raise a strong wind of collective emulations without interruption.

They vowed to become resolute class fighters who stamp out without mercy all sorts of anti-socialist and non-socialist practices which undermine the social system, thoroughly establish the socialist lifestyle across the country and defend the political and ideological position like an impregnable fortress.

They expressed the steadfast will to demonstrate to the full the might of the vanguard unit in the sacred struggle for ushering in a period of a new upsurge in socialist construction by thoroughly implementing the important tasks set forth by Kim Jong Un in the letter.

A letter of pledge to Kim Jong Un was adopted at the meeting.
