Apiculture in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- There are several bee gardens in Chongchun Street, Nam-ri village in Mangyongdae District and other regions of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK.

Aged people hold a considerable proportion among the administrators of the bee gardens having more than one hundred beehives to the maximum.

In an interview with KCNA, Ri Son, a beekeeper, said:

It is a custom for the beekeepers to give a queen bee to a beginner and help him to quickly acquire the methods and secret of beekeeping.

We move the beehives to mountains in local areas in June and, at that time, we meet beekeepers from different parts of the country.

We exchange experiences and techniques with each other while staying in the tents in mountains and gather honey from beehives. It is a pleasure of life for us to send the produced honey to nurseries and kindergartens.

The beekeepers are regarding the apiculture as a patriotic work to increase the country's wealth.

The DPRK which puts forward the apiculture as an important policy for environmental protection is encouraging it.

In the country, the number of beekeepers is increasing as the areas of flower parks and forest have been enlarged and rural families have planted many fruit trees in recent years.
