The historic Pochonbo Battle showed the world that the Koreans were not dead, but alive and they could emerge victorious if they fought against the Japanese imperialists.

After occupying Korea, the Japanese imperialists had intensified the fascist oppression upon the Koreans and the economic plunder and exploitation as never before in the mid-1930s. Korea was turned into a living hell and its nation stood at the crossroads of life and death.

At this critical time, the President advanced into the homeland by leading the main force of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) and commanded the battle of Pochonbo on June 4, Juche 26 (1937) to instill the confidence in national liberation into the mind of the Korean people.

After the victorious battle of Pochonbo, he, with superb tactics, annihilated the chasing large enemy units in the battles waged in Mt Kouyushui and Jiansanfeng and thus displayed the might of the KPRA once again and consolidated the success in the operation for advancement into the homeland.

At that time, the world people were shocked by the fact that the Korean people had a revolutionary army able to mercilessly defeat the Japanese army boasting of being the "leader of Asia" and that the revolutionary army dealt a telling blow to the Japanese imperialist aggressors after crossing the tightly-guarded border area.

The news of the battle of Pochonbo was widely known to the world through media of the former Soviet Union, China, Japan and other countries. World people praised the battle of Pochonbo as a noteworthy event in the history of national-liberation struggle in Asian colonies.
