Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- In recent years, the DPRK government has pushed ahead with the work to protect the ecological environment of the country in step with the global eco-activity. It revised and supplemented the Law on Protection of Environment and the Law on Prevention of Marine Pollution and enacted the Law on Prevention of Air Pollution to consolidate a legal foundation for protecting the environment and coping with the climate change After conducting a full-scale survey of the country's ecological environment, it has worked out in detail the stage plans for improving the water quality and environment and protecting rivers and streams and steadily carried them into practice. The government set the 10 years from this year as a period of plan for afforestation and water-conservancy and drew out a plan by year. On this basis, it launched the projects for lowering river-beds and reinforcing embankments with earth and stones in rivers and streams of areas with high flood damage risk. Meanwhile, it has made a detailed plan for anti-land-sliding projects and conducted the work to prevent land washout and forest fire through a mass movement. State measures were taken to strengthen the forest fire danger signaler and bring any possible fire under control in time. And big efforts have been directed to such works as steadily increasing the forest resources, protecting biodiversity, maintaining ecosystem, alleviating soil degradation and mapping out a state energy strategy with natural energy use as its main component and combining the environment with the sustainable energy development. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, the DPRK is also striving to hit the target set to reduce the greenhouse gas emission. |
