Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- True to the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea to solve the people's food problem in the main by directing efforts to agricultural production, provincial institutes of agricultural science in the DPRK work hard to develop the scientific farming methods meeting the regional characteristics. The Institute of Agricultural Science in Kangwon Province, which developed highly-effective granulated compound fertilizer and the method of using it, generalizes them throughout the province. It has produced various foliage fertilizers including liquid compound fertilizer for taking good nutritional care of rice, studying and utilizing different methods for increasing the efficacy of different soil-friendly herbicides. The Institute of Agricultural Science in North Phyongan Province has prepared and disseminated over 100 pieces of technological information giving easy explanations of various cultivation and disinsectization methods for different species of crops. After setting it as one of its goals to increase grain production on low-yielding fields this year, its researchers are focusing their research on breeding suitable strains. It has also introduced a method of raising rice seedlings that makes it possible to facilitate their growth while saving water, as required by the regional characteristics. Scientists of the Institute of Agricultural Science in South Hamgyong Province found themselves at different farms of the province to make experimental plots and showed them to agricultural workers from different farms in the province. They also established a crop growth forecast system to inform all co-op farms, workteams and sub-workteams of necessary information. The Institute of Agricultural Science in South Hwanghae Province has produced different bio-growth stimulants effective in ensuring healthy growth of rice seedlings and shortening their rooting time. As required by the topographic features of the province with a huge area of tideland, it has also made progress in its research for breeding salt-resistant rice strains. |
