In this regard, Prof. and Dr. Ri Yong Jae of the Botany Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, told KCNA:

The country has about 10,000 species of plants including higher and lower plants. Out of them, hundreds of species are edible economical plants. People widely use edible herbs and wild fruit plants among them.

The edible economical plant resources, organic foodstuff resources, are used as major raw materials at foodstuff factories.

The Chongbong General Foodstuff Factory, the Changsong Foodstuff Factory and other foodstuff factories in the country have produced hundreds of kinds of goods with such resources, which include processed edible herb and wild fruit products and alcoholic beverages.

A work is now being pushed forward to create and protect the edible economical plant resources under a long-range program for their sustained use.
