Masterpiece of Chollima Age
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- Among the masterpieces representing the Chollima age in the DPRK is "A Bumper Harvest in the Chongsan Plain", a musical work created in 1960.

The work, written by Kim Sang O and composed by Kim Ok Song, has been well known as a typical mixed orchestra of the DPRK.

In the age of Chollima, rapid progress was witnessed in the country's rural economy with the grain output sharply increased in Juche 49 (1960). The agricultural workers across the country were making a new history in the socialist agricultural development under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung. The people in Chongsan-ri, in particular, stood in the van of innovation struggle as the models of socialist agricultural workers.

While working together with those agricultural workers of Chongsan-ri to experience the vibrant reality of the times, the composer could find melody and music representing the people's joy and optimism in the Chollima age as well as the pride and happiness of agricultural workers having a bumper harvest. As a result, an orchestra and chorus "A Bumper Harvest in the Chongsan Plain" came into being.

This pleasant music was developed into a Korean-style orchestra based on the combination of Western and national instruments in 1970.

The orchestra "A Bumper Harvest in the Chongsan Plain", which represents the peculiar tone quality of mixed orchestra by use of traditional woodwind and percussion instruments, is a model of the Juche-based instrumental music pieces.
