During his visit to Wangjaesan-ri, Onsong County, North Hamgyong Province on March, Juche 64 (1975), Chairman Kim Jong Il dropped into a dwelling house of a new village. At that time he said with great satisfaction that it was nicely built, giving instructions to further spruce up the village and improve the living standard of the inhabitants.

So the village was transformed into a more neat and tidy one, and the family visited by the Chairman came to be called the first "March 16 Exemplary Family" (at that time) of the country.

Then a dynamic movement for creating exemplary families began across the country. Many exemplary families have so far been produced.

Last year alone, over 108,000 families in Pyongyang City, South Hwanghae Province and Kaesong City and other parts of the country were honored with the title of the family exemplary in establishing a socialist cultured way of life.

A neighborhood unit in Ryusong-dong, Central District, Pyongyang established a way of life befitting the exemplary family by urging all families affiliated to it to keep their flats tidy in terms of culture and creating a strong law-abiding climate among them. Thus, all the families received the title of the family exemplary in establishing a socialist cultured way of life.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, in his letter to the participants in the recent Seventh Congress of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea, detailed the tasks of the union for dynamically waging the movement to create exemplary families in establishing a socialist cultured way of life.

Now the campaign for sprucing up streets, residential areas and dwelling houses is brisk across the country.
