At the historic Kalun Meeting held on June 30-July 2, 1930, Kim Il Sung set forth the line of anti-Japanese armed struggle. At that time, the young Korean communists of new generation had neither necessary knowledge nor exemplary military manual and experience for the armed struggle.

He was determined to form a transitional political and paramilitary organization in order to secure arms and accumulate the military experience independently. And he organized the KRA as the first armed organization of Korean revolutionaries and a political and paramilitary organization for making preparations for the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

The mission and basic task of the KRA was to train hard-core members, secure arms and accumulate military experience for the armed struggle and rally the broad masses through dynamic political and military activities so as to make full preparations for organized anti-Japanese armed struggle.

The KRA members were dispatched in groups to the homeland and vast areas of northeast China. Through vigorous activities, they disposed of vicious Japanese police and their stooges and inspired the people with confidence and hope for the national liberation, successfully carrying out the strategic task for the preparation stage of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.

On their feats, the President wrote in his reminiscences "With the Century": "The feats performed by the members of the Korean Revolutionary Army who had opened up the path ahead of our revolution were truly great and noble. It was by drawing on the experiences and lessons of their heroic struggle and at the cost of the precious blood shed by them that the Korean People's Revolutionary Army came into the world as a permanent revolutionary armed force."

The KRA members became the core of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, the first revolutionary armed force of the Korean people founded on April 25, 1932.
