Book "Imjin Patriotic War Library" Published in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The Social Science Book Publishing House in the DPRK brought out a new book "The Imjin Patriotic War Library". The Imjin Patriotic War is a war of resistance waged by the Korean people in 1592-1598 to repel the Japanese aggressors. The part of this book on the military system deals in detail with the military system existed in Korea before the Imjin Patriotic War and the system of Korea's central and local armies and their composition in social status and branches of arms during the war. Its part on the military tactics and personages systematizes the strategic and tactical measures taken by the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910) and the tactics applied by the government army and the volunteers in land and sea battles during the war and explicate their advantages and lessons. It also introduces the personages who contributed to the victory in the war and evaluates their military feats in brief. Its part on the national classics and literary heritages subdivides the national classics published during the war into classes of historical records, diary and traveler's, anthology, book and biography, and inscriptions on monuments and introduces their representative works. And it divides the literary heritages at that time into sections of appeal, narration, novel, poem and song, etc. and analyzes the thematic and ideological contents of those works. The part on the Japanese aggression army's crimes discloses the massacres and abduction of Koreans and vandalism and pillage of Korean cultural assets committed by the Japanese aggressors during the war and their aftereffects on a full scale. According to Dr. and Associate Prof. Rim Ho Song, this history book of cyclic form, the first of its kind, comprehensively systematizes the whole historical course of the Imjin Patriotic War on the basis of the concrete historical records and old books published at home and abroad, including "The Chronicles of the Feudal Joson Dynasty", and the profound study and analysis of historical data. |
